The podcast brings listeners onto the water, into restaurants, and behind the scenes with the partners, interns, and communities that make Shell to Shore’s recycling, education, and restoration work possible. Season one will feature five episodes, culminating around Shell to Shore’s annual oyster and music festival, Shellfest, in late March in Athens, Georgia.

ShellCast is hosted by Hunt Revell, one of the founders and current President of the Shell to Shore Board of Directors, and Nik Heynen, Shell to Shore’s Director of Education and creator of the organization’s internship program at the University of Georgia.

Built on the success of Shell to Shore’s grassroots work, ShellCast will highlight:

  • Community-powered shell recycling – Shell to Shore collects oyster shells from restaurants, festivals, and events across Georgia and returns them to the coast, where they help build living reefs that reduce erosion, mitigate storm surge, and support the health and well-being of all marine life.

  • Education and internships – The nonprofit’s internship program, created with the University of Georgia and supported by the Birkley Heynen Environmental Foundation and other partners, helps train the next generation of environmental stewards through hands-on work in recycling, education, and restoration.

  • Partnerships across the state – Shell to Shore works with dozens and dozens of restaurant partners, local festivals, coastal organizations, and groups like Save Our Legacy Ourself on Sapelo Island to connect shell recycling with cultural and community priorities.

Throughout the season, listeners will also hear short “infomercials” from Shell to Shore interns, partners, and supporters, including updates on shell recycling totals, membership opportunities, and the upcoming 5th annual Shellfest in Athens.

ShellCast will be available on major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify, as well as at shelltoshore.com.
